Justice For Palestine
In October 2023 I updated my old watermelon designs by changing the watermelon pips to tears; to represent the tears of children after the October 7th 2023 attacks and the (still!) ongoing bombardment of Gaza.
I first made this design for the Revolting Artists Exhibition in April 2024, originally as four framed art prints. With no justice, there can be no lasting peace. And that starts with recognising the State Of Palestine and a long term solution that respects that. In the 4th, whole watermelon image, the tears are removed from the watermelon pips. Asking people to buy 4 art prints, and thus 4 picture frames, was perhaps an unrealistic ask! So here it is on a T shirt.
After the Six Day War in 1967, Israel banned Palestinians from publicly displaying their national flag, or even just it's four colours; red, white, black and green. Brave activists defied this ban by using watermelons, with similar colouring, to display their national identity with pride. This design honours those activists, who faced imprisonment (or worse) for even publicly carrying a slice of watermelon. #FreePalestine
